I have just planted a small garden with tomatoes, basil, broccoli, squash, rosemary, thyme, cucumbers and more. However, last year I was in a frenzy for each morning as I went out to water and watch my garden grow I found myself at war with the garden pests! My basil and herbs were being devoured by these creatures. Oh I am an avid environmentalist and would never think to hurt the little green guys, but geeze! So I went on Google, where else? to search for ways to engage in a peaceful battle with the various pest…especially the grasshoppers. This year, Google bloggers and gardener’s alike told me to plant flowers between the veggies. Therefore I planted an array of flowers; petunias, marigolds, roses, begonias, daisy plant (was already there),and others…in hopes that the bugs will eat less of the veggies. I just hate to use poison when we are going to ingest these items. I tried organic pest control last year…and that was a complete failure. After emptying two bottles of organic anti-pesticide spray the bugs were back the very next day. I will keep anyone posted who is interested in hearing about the result?
